Polyproof 2000 moisture barrier bags

Pushing out the boundaries of technology

Polyproof 2000 is a revolution in drypacking. Employing recent advances in Polymer Technology, it provides unrivalled protection for moisture and corrosion sensitive components. Combining exceptional strength, with very high barrier properties and an interior of Static InterceptTM, Polyproof 2000 is the perfect material for protecting semi-conductors and PCBs during storage and transit.

Developed specifically for the Electronics Industry, this high specification material, achieves very high barrier properties and exceptional puncture resistance without resorting to the use of thicker materials. So you get better performance but less shipping weight and lower transport costs.

By definition the inside of a Moisture Barrier bag is dry, but unlike conventional Drypack materials which rely on atmospheric moisture to attain ESD safe properties, Polyproof 2000 using Static Intercept on the inner surface retains all it’s ESD properties, even at 0%RH. So you don’t lose the ESD decay properties or get the charging that can occur when conventional bags are; evacuated, nitrogen flushed and desiccated.

Polyproof 2000 has been designed as a very high barrier and to give improved seal performance. So you get lower costs because you don’t need as much desiccant.

It will also completely arrest the oxidation process within the completed pack and will clean up any outgassing from the items within the sealed bag. So you get reliability by having; contamination free storage anywhere and long term protection with no deterioration.

POLYPROOF 2000 is a major advance in the packaging of Semi-Conductors, Electronic Components and PCB’s. It offers huge advantages over conventional materials and the opportunity to significantly reduce costs.

    MOISTURE, ESD AND CORROSION

  • BETTER PERFORMANCE - COST REDUCTION

Not only is Polyproof 2000 priced competitively, it offers customers the opportunity to make dramatic cost savings elsewhere, as cost comparisons must be made over the whole packaging process not just on the bag price.

All the materials used in the construction of Polyproof 2000 have been carefully selected to make a contribution to the Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate (MVTR) and the puncture resistance. At the same time we wanted to achieve a soft pliable material that would prevent some the handling and vacuum packing problems customers have experienced. The resulting material has better performance, with as much as 40% weight savings, which has been achieved without resorting to the easy option of increasing the gauge of the cheaper elements.

MOISTURE BARRIER

The MVTR of Polyproof 2000 at < 0.005g/M2/24hrs which is below the measurable limit of the most sensitive test equipment available.

The MVTR of Polyproof 2000 is <0.00032g/100sqins/24hrs. It is not possible to reliable measure below this level.

LOWER TRANSPORT COSTS

Reducing the amount of desiccant required and reducing the overall weight of the materials can have a significant impact on shipping costs.

STATIC INTERCEPT

All Barrier bags rely on an internal layer of heat sealable material, usually Polyethylene, which is also required for ‘drypacking’ electronics to be ESD safe. Conventional static dissipative Polyethylene’s use a volatile additive or coating to attract moisture to the surface of the material, which in turn creates the electrical path for the ESD charges to dissipate. These materials do not function below 10% RH. When used on the inside of a ‘drypack’ bag where the internal humidity can be at or approaching 0%RH these materials effectively become insulators and hence susceptible to tribocharging. These materials are also known to outgas additives, making them highly unsuitable for the interior of a Drypack bag.

The surface resistance of Polyproof 2000, with its inner layer of Static Intercept remains at 106 - 107 ohms from 100%RH to 0%RH. It does not rely on moisture to function but instead uses a combination of activated copper and semiconductors, covalently bonded into the polymer matrix. The resulting new material, is referred to as a Permanent ESD protective surface.

CONTAMINATION FREE

Polyproof 2000 is inherently very clean and has passed ionic contamination and outgassing requirements in some of the most demanding applications within the electronics and aerospace industry. Perhaps more importantly the Static Intercept technology used in Polyproof 2000 stops oxidation an corrosion, not just from outside but also from products outgassed by the contents.

THE OPPOUTUNITY FOR FURTHER COST REDUCTION

Production Planning Limitations on production to take account of storage time caused by deteriation can be eliminated.

Safe storage Anywhere The protection afforded by Polyproof 2000 is unaffected by heat humidty or other climatic condition at different locations around the world.

Environmental Impact: Preservation of solderability can enable low activity fluxes to be used with less                                              cleaning requirements.
